Overview

The Keating Machine 24-Valve Billet Tappet Cover VP44 with Breather Port is a billet aluminum upgrade for 1998.5–2002 Cummins 5.9L 24-valve engines using the VP44 injection pump. Keating Machine CNC-machines this cover from billet aluminum to replace the factory stamped steel tappet cover with improved strength and sealing.

Breather Port Design

This ported version includes an integrated breather port to support improved crankcase ventilation. The breather uses a –12AN male O-ring boss fitting, which allows easy connection to catch cans or custom breather systems. Additionally, internal baffling helps control oil mist before it exits the engine.

Sealing & Hardware

An included O-ring seals the cover directly against the engine block. This design removes the need for paper gaskets. As a result, it helps reduce oil leaks caused by heat and vibration. Keating Machine also includes stainless steel hardware to resist corrosion and simplify installation.

Fitment & Internal Clearance

This tappet cover fits factory flat mushroom tappets and drop-in tappets. However, it does not provide clearance for aftermarket roller lifters. Additionally, the internal shape allows the engine computer to mount back in the factory location using stock bolts with hex heads.

Application Use

This tappet cover installs as a direct bolt-on solution for VP44 Cummins builds that require added crankcase ventilation while maintaining clean fitment and reliable sealing.
