Improved Airflow for the Duramax LLY Platform

The aFe Power BladeRunner Turbo Inlet Manifold is designed to improve airflow efficiency on 2004–2005 Duramax LLY engines. By increasing airflow by up to 73 percent over the factory turbo inlet, this upgrade allows the turbocharger to breathe more freely. As a result, throttle response improves, turbo spool-up is quicker, and overall drivability is enhanced. Additionally, dyno testing shows gains of up to 23 horsepower and 57 lb-ft of torque with proper supporting modifications.

Reduced EGTs and Faster Turbo Response

At the same time, increased airflow through the BladeRunner inlet helps lower exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) under load. Because the turbo operates more efficiently, engine stress is reduced during towing or sustained driving. Consequently, this results in smoother power delivery and improved reliability compared to the restrictive factory inlet.

BladeRunner Construction and MDV Airflow Design

Furthermore, this turbo inlet manifold is cast from durable A356-T6 aluminum, providing strength and heat resistance in high-boost conditions. More importantly, aFe’s Multi-Directional Vane (MDV) technology helps guide airflow smoothly toward the turbocharger. By reducing turbulence, the design improves airflow velocity and supports consistent boost across the RPM range.

Direct-Fit Turbo Inlet Upgrade

Equally important, the BladeRunner turbo inlet manifold is engineered as a direct-fit replacement for the factory component on Duramax LLY trucks. The kit includes the turbo inlet manifold along with all required installation hardware. Therefore, installation is straightforward and does not require cutting, welding, or custom fabrication.
